Queenslanders among recipients of Australian Bravery Decorations

• 13 Queenslanders to receive an Australian Bravery Decoration
• The Governor-General of Australia is recognising 46 people with awards

Thirteen Queenslanders have been recognised for their acts of courage in the latest Australian Bravery Decoration awards.

The awards were announced on Tuesday by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency General the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.

The 13 recipients all receive a Commendation for Brave Conduct for their actions while trying to save others in life-threatening situations.

The recipients include Mr Michael Misi, who rescued a young girl from flood waters near Woree in 2023, and Mr Alexander Stewart, who assisted in the rescue of two people from a car which had caught fire near Harvey in Western Australia.

Six awards were also given for the actions of Queensland Ambulance Service officers when treating a victim during the pursuit of an armed offender near Gatton, on 29 May 2017.

Three recipients were also awarded for their actions in assisting passengers who were trapped on a burning bus in Moorooka in October 2016.

Two Australian Bravery Decoration lists are announced every year. The independent Australian Bravery Decorations Council makes recommendations to the Governor-General regarding who should be recognised and at what level of award.

Recipients are offered an invitation to an Investiture Ceremony at Government House in the State or Territory in which they reside.

Ceremonies are recorded and streamed so that recipients can share their special moment with family, friends, and loved ones.
