- Locals encouraged to get involved in Ekka’s Ag exhibits
- Support regional Queenslanders and learn about state’s great food and fibre
- Miles Government supporting Ekka with $150,000 sponsorship
The Miles Government has joined forces with AgForce to encourage Queenslanders to get along to this year’s Ekka and learn first-hand about where the state’s world-class food and fibre comes from.
Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner and AgForce CEO Michael Guerin were on hand at the Brisbane Showgrounds Main Arena checking out the beef stud cattle competition – just one of the many features of this year’s Ekka.
The Miles Government is supporting this year’s Ekka with a $150,000 sponsorship, continuing a long partnership of bringing the bush to Brisbane.
On the Saturday alone, the Ekka features an apiculture competition, a paddock-to-plate VR experience, horticultural displays, a sugarcane showcase, as well as competitions for beef, lamb and poultry.
Usual crowd favourites like strawberry sundaes and the woodchop competition are back.
The Ekka will be open every day until Sunday 18 August.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner:
“There has never been a better time to come to the Ekka.
“It’s a golden opportunity for folks, particularly those who live in Brisbane and surrounds, who don’t usually get the opportunity to speak to Queensland’s primary producers and see the breadth of extraordinary agriculture our state producers.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that strongly supports Queensland’s biggest public Ag showcase.
“I would encourage everyone to grab a strawberry sundae, come and checkout the livestock and fresh produce that helps shape Queensland, and have a chat to the people from all corners of our state that make it happen.”
Quotes attributable to AgForce CEO Michael Guerin:
“Take the opportunity that EKKA provides to come and engage with an industry all Queenslanders can be immensely proud of.
“The locally grown, healthy food we find on our supermarket shelves 365 days a year comes from the producers who are at the EKKA and would welcome the chance to showcase what they do.
“It’s also just a great day out and a once-a-year opportunity. There is something here for everyone.”
