- The majority of Queensland’s 482,000 small businesses will benefit from a Miles Government commitment to cut car registration fees by 20 per cent.
- Part of the 2024-25 State Budget, the reduction will apply to all light vehicle registrations for a 12-month period from 16 September 2024 – including light vehicles utilised by small businesses.
- Cut-price rego is the latest cost-of-living measure putting money back in the till for small business – following commitments to slash electricity bills, fund energy efficient appliances, and provide direct grant funding of up to $75,000.
More relief is on the way for the owners and operators of the more than 480,000 Queensland small businesses, along with the jobs of more than one million Queenslanders.
The new Miles Labor Government has today announced that Queensland registration fees will be cut by 20 per cent on light vehicle registration discount that will start to appear on renewal notices sent to customers from 5 August 2024.
The reduction will apply to the registration fee and the traffic improvement fee for all light vehicles, regardless of purpose of use.
The reduction fee will also apply to trailers – utilised by mobile small businesses across Queensland.
The 2023-24 Budget Update – announced in December 2024 – included a commitment to freeze motor vehicle registration fees in 2024-25.
An investment of $35 million in the Queensland Business Energy Saving and Transformation program supports businesses to purchase energy-efficient appliances and equipment, to further reduce their energy costs.
The Miles and Albanese Labor Governments are also providing a $650 rebate on electricity bills for around 205,000 eligible small businesses from July 2024.
