Homes for Queenslanders: Budget delivers plan, 600 modular homes

More Homes for Queenslanders are on their way with the Miles Government’s upcoming state Budget locking in $2.8 billion in crucial funds to deliver its housing plan, including hundreds more modular homes.

Premier Steven Miles made the announcement today at the QBuild Rapid Accommodation and Apprentice Centres in Eagle Farm, where new modular homes are under construction for the Torres Strait.

The Budget backs in funding to support up to 600 more modular homes in partnership with the private sector to be underway by year’s end.

Modular homes are built in a factory and are then delivered to site, where they are set up in a fraction of the time of a traditional build.

Ordering 600 more modular homes will help this part of the housing sector grow, and will go to locations including Bundaberg, Innisfail, Mackay, and Warwick, along with others throughout remote and regional Queensland.

These homes can get people out of temporary accommodation quicker – where the government is currently investing millions of dollars – as on-site construction time can be three months compared to a year for many traditional builds.

The state’s plan is in a stark contrast to the LNP who sent social housing backwards by hundreds of homes, cut workers from the state’s public builder QBuild and who are now blocking legislation that will help thousands of families buy their own home.

Earlier this year, the LNP’s Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett labelled modular homes built for families in Bundaberg as “too much”.

Now the LNP’s secret Commission of Inquiry has been revealed, which is their plan to cut funding and public servants to achieve their debt reduction goals.

That means thousands of homes and the people who build them will be on the chopping block, under a government led by David Crisafulli and Jarrod Bleijie.
