New senior government appointments announced

The Honourable Steven Miles

  • Three Directors-General appointed to three Queensland Government departments
  • New Commissioner appointed to QFES

Three new Directors-General, each with a wealth of experience, have been appointed by the Miles Government.

A new commissioner has also been appointed to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service.

The appointments include:

  • Linda Dobe, Director-General for the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRDMW).
  • Peter McKay, Director-General of the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT)
  • Graeme Bolton Director-General of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF); and
  • Stephen Smith, QFES

Linda Dobe

Ms Dobe is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive with more than 30 years of water, lands, mining and education experience across both public and private sectors.

As DRDMW’s Acting Director-General since March 2023, she has steered the department to operational and transformational success.

She has been a senior executive across several Queensland Government departments, and brings a unique mix of relevant knowledge, skills, and governance.

Peter McKay 

Mr McKay brings more than 20 years’ senior executive experience across large Queensland Government departments in policy, corporate support, service delivery and regulation.

He was most recently the Deputy Director-General at the Office of Industrial Relations with a focus on uplifting organisational capacity and performance.

Graeme Bolton

Mr Bolton is a senior executive and policy professional with more than three decades of leadership experience across local, state, and international governments.

He was the former Deputy Director-General, Fisheries and Forestry for DAF from May 2019 to November 2023 and was most recently the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Youth Justice.

Mr Bolton has a wealth of experience across executive and leadership roles within the Queensland Government, including various deputy directors-general and senior executive positions.

Stephen Smith

Mr Smith has been acting commissioner of QFES since 2023.

He is an experienced and highly respected fire and emergency services leader, having served QFES with distinction for more than 30 years.
