Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women
The Honourable Shannon Fentiman
- Construction is complete on the centrepiece building of Stage 1 of the Logan Hospital expansion.
- Artist’s impressions of Stage 2 of the expansion have been released, with work to begin in the coming months.
- The Miles Government is investing more than $1 billion towards the major expansion to one of the state’s busiest hospitals, which will deliver over 300 additional beds.
- The Government’s record stands in contrast to the LNP, who sacked almost 1,000 health staff in Metro South HHS and failed to deliver a single piece of health infrastructure.
Logan residents will now receive even higher quality healthcare closer to home, with the centerpiece of the Logan Hospital Stage 1 expansion now complete.
Health Minister Shannon Fentiman was joined by Deputy Premier Cameron Dick and Logan MPs today to officially open the new hospital building, which has been expanded with four new floors, new wards, and hundreds more beds.
Several new wards have already opened their doors to patients, including a new cardiac ward, coronary care unit, medical assessment and planning unit, general medical ward and a palliative care ward.
The remaining wards are expected to be operational by late 2024, further enhancing the hospital’s ability to service the growing Logan community.
The milestone means that Stage 1 of the Logan Hospital expansion is now largely complete, with a new Intensive Care Unit, additional Emergency Department capacity and minor refurbishment works remaining.
Artist’s impressions have also been released today showcasing plans for the new clinical services building as part of Stage 2, which include 112 additional beds and new operating theatres.
Construction of Stage 2 is set to begin later this year.
This project is part of the Miles Labor Government’s record-breaking $14 billion Health Big Build, under Queensland’s Big Build initiative.
The plan to deliver new and expanded hospitals helps ensure continued access to world-class healthcare for rapidly growing regions – boosting capacity through expansions to 11 existing hospitals, building three new hospitals, seven satellite hospitals, and building a dedicated cancer centre.
Queensland’s Health Big Build is delivering over 3,300 additional hospital beds, including 199 in 2023 and 239 in 2024.
