Hutchinson Builders have been awarded the construction tender for the Beenleigh Courthouse Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Upgrade Project.

Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said site works on the $11 million project were expected to begin this month.

“This fantastic upgrade is great news for those affected by domestic and family violence and the wider community as well,” she said.

“The project is expected to support 12 full-time equivalent jobs this financial year and another 23 in 2019–20.

“The Palaszczuk Government has increased our capital investment in this building to ensure that it can best serve Beenleigh and the Logan region.

“The upgrade will not only provide state-of-the-art facilities for the DFV area, but the general court precinct will also benefit.

“Beenleigh’s community deserves a safe and modern courthouse and that is what the Palaszczuk Government is delivering.”

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said the scope of works included a refurbished Magistrates courtroom, a new DFV courtroom, a secure DFV area, a secure entrance/exit for DFV clients, a new internal lift, and new interview and conference rooms.

Other improvements include a refurbished Magistrates Court registry, a refurbished public waiting area, a refurbished public entrance, upgraded electronic security, modern audio-visual/video conferencing facilities, and upgraded building services.

“Tackling domestic and family violence remains one of the Palaszczuk Government’s highest priorities,” Mrs D’Ath said.

“It’s good news for the local construction industry as well because as is the case with all of our construction work, there is a charter of local content built into the tender to encourage the use of local businesses and sub-contractors wherever possible.”

Mrs D’Ath said the Beenleigh works were expected to be completed by December 2019.
