Extra transport for dawn services

Extra early morning bus and train services will operate to this year’s ANZAC Day dawn service in Brisbane.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said eight extra trains and 29 extra bus services would operate for veterans, their families and people paying their respects at the ceremony at Anzac Square in the Brisbane CBD.

“Extra trains will run on the Shorncliffe, Ferny Grove, Beenleigh/Gold Coast, Cleveland, Sunshine Coast/Caboolture, Ipswich/Rosewood and Richlands lines, all stopping at Central before the dawn service starts,” Mr Emerson said.

“Extra buses will run on routes 103 (Inala-Mt Ommaney), 111 (Eight Mile Plains to CBD), 130 (Parkinson-CBD), 140 (Browns Plains-CBD), 150 (Browns Plains-CBD), 199 (New Farm-West End), 200 (Carindale-CBD), 333 (Chermside-CBD), 345 (Aspley-CBD), 385 (The Gap-CBD) and 444 (Moggill-CBD), also to get people to the dawn ceremony and home again.

“We will again provide free travel for all veterans participating in ANZAC Day ceremonies who are wearing their service medals, as well as their spouses.

“Family members wearing the medals of servicemen and women who are marching in south east Queensland on behalf of a veteran, plus children participating in official proceedings wearing an official uniform representing Scouts, Girl Guides and military associations, will also be able to travel free.”

Free travel for veterans, their spouses and those marching will also apply in other areas of the state where services are running.

This includes ceremonies on the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and regional centres such as North Stradbroke Island, Maleny, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Proserpine, Airlie Beach, Magnetic Island, Townsville, Cairns and Yeppoon.

In south east Queensland buses, trains and ferries will run to a Sunday or public holiday timetable for the remainder of the day, except CityFerry services which will operate to a regular Monday to Sunday timetable.
