The Queensland Government’s key services will be on show this year at the 2012 Ekka.

Premier Campbell Newman said the Ekka was a great opportunity for Queenslanders to get a taste of government projects and talk directly with departments.

“I encourage everyone to get along to the Ekka and to get to know the government by taking a walk through the Queensland Government precinct,” Mr Newman said.

“People can talk to government officers about real ways to lower their cost of living, or they can have a quick two minute health check.

“Other activities which introduce people to the wide range of government services include interactive games, or having a photo taken as a paramedic or firefighter.”

Displays within the precinct cover maritime safety through to volunteer recruitment, disaster preparedness tips, healthy recreation ideas and advice on education and training pathways.

The Queensland Government Precinct is located in the Lower Commerce Building, opposite the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion.

Visitors to the precinct will also have the chance to win prizes including an iPad, Queensland holiday packages and a set of personalised number plates.

Ekka visitors can also visit government departments and agencies in other locations throughout the Showgrounds.

Those sites include the popular Queensland Police Service/PCYC display at the far end of the Dairy Industry Hall, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service NRMA Safehome display on the ground level of the Commonwealth Bank Auditorium, and the State Emergency Service Survive 3 Days storm preparedness display behind the Gourmet Harvest precinct.
Visit the Ekka website www.ekka.com.au for further information on ticketing and public transport.

The 2012 Ekka runs from Thursday 9 to Saturday 18 August.
