Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services
The Honourable Tracy Davis

There is just over a week left to bring a smile to a foster child’s face for Christmas, with the Kids in Care Christmas Appeal closing on 14 December.

Child Safety Minister Tracy Davis said she was grateful that more than 2,300 gifts had already been donated across the State.

“This is a fantastic effort and I sincerely thank everyone for their generous donations. The collection points have been filled with gifts of all shapes and sizes,” Ms Davis said.

“We are hoping that Queenslanders’ wonderful generosity will see a further 6,000 presents donated before the 14 December deadline so all children in care can receive a gift through the appeal.

“We have had an amazing response in Brisbane already, so we especially need more donations in regional and rural areas, although we will still happily accept gifts at Brisbane collection centres for distribution to other areas.”

Donations can be made at collection points throughout Queensland, including Child Safety Service Centres, ABC Shops, ABC Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast studios and Harvey Norman stores throughout the State.

Ms Davis praised ABC Local Radio in Queensland for getting behind the appeal and promoting it throughout the State.

“There are plenty of gift ideas on the department’s website if people would like suggestions on what to buy different age groups,” she said.

Presents need to be suitable for a child aged 0 to 17 years.

People can visit www.communities.qld.gov.au/childsafety to find out where their local centre is and for more information on how to get involved.
