Brisbane based start-up Redback Technologies is leading the way with innovative solutions to maximise renewable energy consumption at home, and the stability of the grid.

Environment Minister Dr Steven Miles visited Redback’s Indooroopilly head office today (17 October) to learn about their advanced hybrid solar inverter system technology.

“I am thrilled a local business is helping find clean, affordable and reliable energy solutions through new technology,” Dr Miles said.

“I congratulate Redback Technologies for developing hardware and software innovations that help Australians take control of their energy consumption, while protecting the environment.

“Redback’s hybrid solar inverter system combines a smart solar inverter, battery enclosure and intelligent energy management software.

“Customers can simply manage their consumption of grid and rooftop solar electricity through a smartphone.

“Users can decide how and when they want to use, save and sell the energy captured. People can reduce their carbon emissions while saving money, so it is a win-win.

“I congratulate Redback Technologies for helping drive climate change innovation in Australia.

“Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time, and I am impressed Redback has developed world-class hardware and software that can help families and home businesses.

“We face significant environmental impacts from climate change and energy innovation will help tackle this global problem.”

The visit comes ahead of tomorrow’s Advancing Queensland: Building the low carbon economy summit where industry leaders will discuss the business opportunities of transitioning to a low carbon economy.

At the summit, Dr Miles will be calling on Queenslanders to have their say on new directions for adapting to climate change.

Redback Technologies plan to further develop the technology though a $9.3 million investment from Energy Australia, to give Australians greater control of their energy generation and consumption.

Founder and Managing Director of Redback Technologies Philip Livingston said the company is leading the disruptive change required for mass adoption of renewables.

“We have created cost effective, distributed renewable generation systems that significantly reduce reliance on fossil generation,” Mr Livingston said.

“At the same time, it provides consumers with greater climate resilience, reducing their exposure to the daunting effects of climate change.

“We are building infrastructure for the ‘future grid’ - infrastructure that enables grid stability without reliance on centralised fossil infrastructure.

“Shifting to decentralised renewable energy sources allows people to monitor, store and control their own solar energy assets.

“It is a means of ensuring power is there when people need it.”
