Bedourie hero Joanne Lewington honoured

Tireless Bedourie community worker Joanne Lewington was honoured today as the recipient of a Blueprint for the Bush Community Hero Award from the State Government

Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations, John Mickel, presented Joanne with a plaque to recognise her exceptional community service over many years.

“I’m honoured to acknowledge Joanne as a member of the Bedourie community who has made such an amazing contribution to the region,” he said.

“Joanne is the president of the Bedourie Parents and Citizens Association, an organisation she has been involved in for 18 years.

“She is also the secretary and treasurer of the Bedourie Aboriginal Corporation, and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Aboriginal residents,” Mr Mickel said.

Mr Mickel said Community Hero Awards were a Blueprint for the Bush initiative to honour and celebrate community members who continuously demonstrate tireless effort in making a difference to the lives of those around them.

“At their core, these awards recognise Queenslanders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make their community a better place to live, work and raise a family.

“While the Blueprint for the Bush initiative works to promote liveable, sustainable and prosperous communities, the efforts from community members such as Joanne help the Queensland Government deliver on its commitment to rural and regional Queensland,” Mr Mickel said.
