Minister for Police and Corrective Services
The Honourable Judy Spence

GYMPIE’S TOP CRIME FIGHTERS RECOGNISED FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE

Gympie’s most experienced crime fighters were recognised today for their long service and loyalty in safeguarding Queensland communities.

Police Minister Judy Spence and Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson presented awards to 47 officers from the North Coast Region, who together share in more than 855 years experience.

“Few careers are as challenging as those in the Queensland Police Service – and few inspire the dedication that sees people commit their entire working lives to the job,” Ms Spence said.

“Gympie is fortunate to have so many officers with extensive knowledge and experience in the area.”

Nine officers were awarded National Medals and/or clasps in recognition of more than 15 years of service to Queensland, while 38 received Queensland Police Service Medals and/or clasps for 10 years of diligent and ethical service.

Among the recipients were Sergeant Stephen Seed, Sergeant Warren Lohmann and former Senior Sergeant Edward Robb, who were recognised for more than 30 years of service.

Ms Spence said the awards recognised the outstanding commitment made by the officers to the Queensland Police Service, their colleagues and the people of Queensland.

"These awards not only recognise time in the service, but acknowledge the officer's dedication and ethical behaviour throughout their service,” Ms Spence said.

“Police officers have a very demanding role and often uphold the peace and protect the lives and property of people in our community at great personal risk.

“It's important we recognise the exceptional level of dedication these men and women show everyday.”

Commissioner Atkinson said the wealth of knowledge and experience each police officer brought to the job greatly benefited the service.

“It gives the service great confidence in the role of our police officers today and in the future,” Mr Atkinson said.

“I am sure the people of Queensland are encouraged to know that they can call on officers like those here today.”

Sergeants Terry Kennedy and Peter Webster received Awards for their work on the ‘Alternate Roads Project’, a local initiative which has minimised disruptions on the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Gympie following traffic incidents.

Commissioner Atkinson also presented Detective Sergeant Annick Colfs with a certificate to formally recognise her promotion to detective.
