Queensland’s licenced builders are being called to join the Works for Tradies stimulus package as the Palaszczuk Government delivers a plan to Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the Register of Interest for the $100 million Works for Tradies boost was now open to build 215 new homes.

“We’re looking for new homes across the state, and tradies to build them,” Mr de Brenni said.

“We want to have contracts signed to commence construction of 215 new social homes in priority regions across the State over the next 12 months,” he said.

Mr de Brenni said the Works for Tradies stimulus was firmly focused on delivering a secure pipeline of work for the 240,000 people employed in the State’s Building and Construction Industry.

“The construction of new social housing will directly support 240 jobs for Queensland tradies.

“That means jobs for a range of trades involved in the residential construction industry such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers, concreters and landscapers, as well as a wealth of new opportunities right through the supply chain.

“Through Works for Tradies, we are targeting 70 additional homes in South East Queensland, 25 in Central Queensland, and 21 in the Darling Downs.

“We’re also planning 30 extra homes for Far North Queensland, 20 in the Mackay/Whitsunday area, 25 in Townsville and 24 in the Wide Bay region.

Mr de Brenni said Works for Tradies forms part of the State Government’s $267 million building industry stimulus that will create jobs and help Queensland recover.

“By registering their interest in Works for Tradies, licenced builders will be able to tender for social housing projects set to be rolled out in their local communities.”

“Importantly, Works for Tradies in addition to the Palaszczuk Government’s successful Housing Construction Jobs Program will deliver another 685 new homes next financial year.”

Registrations close on 22 July 2020 and more information is available at www.hpw.qld.gov.au/about/initiatives/housing-construction-works-for-tradies.
