New Director of Public Prosecutions appointed

Carl Heaton QC has been appointed Queensland’s Director of Public Prosecutions.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said Mr Heaton brought immense experience to the role.

“Carl Heaton QC was called to the bar in 1990 and took silk in 2010,” she said.

“He has extensive experience in the criminal justice system having been involved in every aspect of the criminal justice system at every jurisdictional level.

“Mr Heaton was employed in various roles by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions between 1989 and 2007.

“He also spent nine years as the Deputy Public Defender, including 10 months as the Public Defender prior to being appointed as the Deputy DPP in 2016.

“I congratulate Mr Heaton on his appointment and wish him well in his new role.”

Mr Heaton has been appointed for a five year term commencing this month.
