Clock ticking on COVID Works for Queensland applications

Queensland’s councils have two days to get their applications in for projects to be funded through the COVID Works for Queensland program.

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said he was looking forward to seeing how the $200 million package had stimulated councils’ forward thinking.

“This is a significant part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $6 billion Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs plan,” he said.

“The clock is ticking for councils to get their wish lists in for projects that will benefit their communities, with applications closing on Friday 12 June,” he said.

“This is a really important opportunity to stimulate the State’s economy and create thousands of jobs.

“These will be shovel-ready projects so there will be no delay getting people on the tools as soon as possible after projects are approved.

“This week I have been meeting with South-East Queensland mayors to discuss how the program will work for them given it’s the first time they’ve had access to it.

“To a person they are passionate about their communities and welcome the opportunity to support their workforces.

“They’re also very excited about the projects they’re putting in the mix in these applications.”
