Kallangur is another step closer to getting a new neighbourhood centre, with the Expressions of Interest (EOI) now open for the construction of the centre.

Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke encouraged pre-registered local building contractors to put themselves forward for the EOI, which has opened.

“The Queensland Government has committed up to $3.74 million (inclusive of GST) towards the construction of this new centre for the Kallangur community, in addition to the $770,000 (inclusive of GST) provided to purchase the land,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“Construction of this centre will be truly local – built by local construction companies, supporting local workers and boosting the local economy.

“We anticipate this project will create approximately 10 jobs for local people.

“In the current economic climate we know how important it is to provide jobs for local people and I look forward to working with local construction companies to deliver this vital project for the people of Kallangur.”

Member for Murrumba Steven Miles said the new Kallangur Community Centre, which will be located on Marsden Road will deliver services for the community, with a particular focus on services for families and children.

“The centre will be a local hub for services including playgroups, social activities and parenting programs,” Mr Miles said.

“The centre will also serve as an entry point to crisis services such as domestic and family violence assistance or financial counselling.

“I look forward to seeing the community benefit from the centre once completed and encourage pre-registered local building contractors to apply now.”

Mrs O’Rourke said building a new neighbourhood centre for Kallangur was another example of the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering high-quality community support services across the state.

“We are proud of the supports and services being delivered through our network of 124 Queensland-Government funded neighbourhood centres across the state,” she said.

“Over the past two years we have delivered, or have plans to deliver, new neighbourhood centres at Inala, Moranbah, Murgon, Thursday Island, Kallangur, Wilsonton and Bowen.

“The services and supports delivered through these centres form a key part of our vision to create thriving communities.”

The EOI will close on Monday April 20.
