No place for bias in Federal inquiry

Queensland’s Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence has called on the Prime Minister to dismiss Senator Pauline Hanson as Deputy Chair of a Federal inquiry into family law.

“It is clear from her comments on national television this morning that Senator Hanson continues to hold the victims of domestic violence at least partly responsible for their fate,” said Minister Di Farmer.

“You can’t serve on an inquiry into family law issues from the perspective that ‘these things (murder) happen’.

“Last Wednesday Australians were horrified by the calculated and pre-meditated murder of a defenceless woman and her three children by a domineering ex-partner.

“Senator Hanson’s claim that the perpetrator may have been ‘driven to it’ echoes her comments from September 2019 when she accused mothers of making up abuse claims to stop another parent seeing their children.

“The Prime Minister should do the right thing and remove Senator Hanson from the Deputy Chair’s role as she remains clearly determined to prosecute an agenda rather than learn about the shocking reality of domestic and family violence in this country,” Ms Farmer said.
