Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Cameron Dick

Queensland building contractors are invited to submit expressions of interest to develop the Palaszczuk Government’s $5.95 million student nurse accommodation precinct at the new Roma Hospital.

Minister for State Development and Infrastructure Cameron Dick said the project, a first for the hospital and the town, offers the opportunity to create more jobs in Roma.

“This work will provide a real boost for tradies and trade suppliers in the region,” Mr Dick said.

“We see this student nurse accommodation becoming a benchmark for regional infrastructure of its kind in Queensland.

“Construction of the precinct will support many local jobs and stimulate local economic activity, while encouraging students to not only study but to stay in the region.

“I encourage all experienced local contractors to get involved in this exciting project.”

The precinct will feature elevated urban-style pavilions (each with five bedrooms with private ensuites), a communal kitchen and dining area, laundry, recreation and study areas, and a shipping-container pool.

The pavilions and amenities will be connected by a boardwalk around a landscaped courtyard.

“The modern precinct, located 150 metres away from the hospital, will be built on an 8000 m2 site within the Roma Priority Development Area,” Mr Dick said.

“Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), in collaboration with South West Health and Hospital Service, is seeking established builders who have successfully delivered similar developments to submit an EOI.”

Following the EOI process, up to five suppliers will be shortlisted for an invitation to offer (ITO).

It’s anticipated the successful contractor will be appointed by the end of 2019.
