The Honourable Grace Grace

Education Minister Grace Grace has congratulated around 1,400 Queensland students who are involved in this year’s Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage (CGEN) program.

The talented students in kindy to year 12 from across the state will take to the stage at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre today and tomorrow for four show-stopping performances.

“I’d like to wish all our talented state school students the best of luck for the performances and thank their parents, teachers and schools for supporting them during the process,” Ms Grace said.

“This year is particularly special as it’s the 15th anniversary of CGEN, which started in 2005 with around 550 students and has since grown into a huge award-winning program.

“I’m sure this year’s three-hour show ‘Our time’ will live up to the high standard set in previous years.”

Ms Grace said CGEN was a chance for young Queenslanders, no matter where they live, to express themselves.

“One of the best parts about CGEN is the opportunity for students in rural and remote areas to unite with other young people living in the city, providing them with friendships which will last a lifetime,” she said.

“In 2019, we have students from as far as Weipa, Longreach and Childers taking part, as well as across the south east.

“Students feature in all aspects of the show, from the orchestra, dance, choir, drama, vocalists, drumline, massed strings and the James Morrison Creative Generation Big Band.

“We want every student involved from kindergarten to Year 12 to believe in their talents and realise that dreaming big can lead to their own opportunity to shine.

“This year’s theme ‘Our time’ contains a powerful message which encourages students to strive for success in all aspects of life.”

“The production also includes participation by students with disabilities, and supports reforms for youth engagement, Aboriginal education, and rural and remote access.”

Ms Grace acknowledged the support of partners – AEG Ogden; The Courier-Mail; Network Ten; Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre; NOVA 106.9; and QSuper.

She also thanked creative partners, including – Bangarra Dance Theatre; Queensland Ballet; Out There Productions; Rockit Productions; Capezio; Vocal Manoeuvres Academy; Swagamama; Ben Parkinson Casting; Rapid Displays; and Drum Camp.

The show will be televised nationally on Network Ten on Saturday 28 September 2019 at 12 noon.
