Fraser Coast alive with projects thanks to State Government grants

New lighting and field upgrades, funded with more than $900,000 from the Palaszczuk Government’s Works for Queensland program, will see the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct attract a swag of major sporting events along with tens of thousands of visitors.

In touring the region, Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said this is just one of many projects funded through the job-supporting Works for Queensland program and the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).

“I’m excited by what we’re seeing here on the Fraser Coast through both of these vital grants programs,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Today I’ll get a close up look at how the sports precinct will become even more impressive, and I’ll also see the refurbishment works being carried out at the magnificent Maryborough City Hall, through a $550,000 grant from the Works for Queensland program.

“A further $800,000 from the Works for Queensland program has been earmarked for the new water park and all-abilities playground at Anzac Park, bound to put smiles on the faces of kids young and old.

“The Pialba Youth Precinct will also benefit from upgrades to the skate park and basketball facility and increased car parking, made possible through more than $1.15 million from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

“Through both of these funding programs we are seeing the creation of jobs and the provision of important infrastructure in towns and cities right across the State.”

Fraser Coast Regional Council has received $39.45 million in Works for Queensland funding since 2016 and $4.35 million in LGGSP funding during the same period.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said the Works for Queensland and LGGSP funding were making a positive impact in the Maryborough community.

“Maryborough City Hall is an historic landmark that’s much loved by local residents and businesses,” Mr Saunders said.

“It’s great to see this important part of our history being preserved for future generations through Works for Queensland, an important program that’s also supporting local jobs and economic activity.

“The additional funding for a water park and all-abilities playground at Anzac Park is also great news for the Maryborough community.”

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour welcomed the Queensland Government’s funding towards local projects.

“It is through funding programs like these that we can swiftly upgrade infrastructure, create job opportunities and boost the economy,” Mayor Seymour said.

“For example, the upgrades to the Sport and Recreation Precinct could help the region secure major sporting events which could inject up to $6 million annually into the local economy and attract more than 27,000 additional visitors to the Fraser Coast.

“The council appreciates the Works for Queensland funding which has made a genuine positive impact on our community.”
