The Honourable Jackie Trad

Almost 185,000 jobs have been created in Queensland since January 2015, with 4000 new full time jobs being created in February.

Data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the trend unemployment rate for February fell from 5.8% to 5.7%.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 6.1% in January to 5.4% in February

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said her government would remain focussed on supporting jobs growth in Queensland.

“We have a $46 billion infrastructure program that is supporting 38,000 jobs in this year alone,” the Premier said.

“This has helped contribute to 184,900 jobs created in the Queensland economy since January, 2015.

“Imagine what we could do with a fair share of infrastructure funding from the Morrison Government.”

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the Palaszczuk Government’s focus on delivering a strong economy that creates jobs was paying dividends.

“The trend unemployment rate today is significantly lower than the 6.6% rate we inherited from the LNP, but we know there is more work to do,” the Deputy Premier said.

“Our $46.3 billion infrastructure program is creating 38,000 jobs this year alone – 25,000 of those are in regional Queensland.

“We will keep working hard to support jobs growth.

“The upcoming federal budget is a chance for Scott Morrison to show he truly understands the infrastructure needs of a decentralised state like Queensland.

“If Scott Morrison is serious about supporting jobs growth in Queensland, he will ensure we get our fair share in the federal budget.”
