Water supply has been strengthened in Herberton and Ravenshoe with the delivery of critical new infrastructure, supported with an almost $5 million investment via the Palaszczuk Government’s $365 million Building our Regions (BoR) program.

A new two megalitre reservoir will provide Herberton with greater water storage capacity from Wild River Dam, while crucial upgrades will extend the life of Ravenshoe’s wastewater treatment plant.

Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said more than 30 jobs were supported during the construction of both projects.

“The Palaszczuk Government will continue to invest in infrastructure and create more jobs for the Tablelands,” Mr Dick said.

“Our funding of almost $5 million between the two projects is in addition to more than $5 million from Tablelands Regional Council, and together signifies a huge vote of confidence in the region.

“This sort of co-investment is crucial to improve liveability in our towns and to drive local economies.

“Together the facilities will be able to meet the region’s future water demands.”

Part of the delivered works for Herberton include a new trunk water main and pipelines, which will strengthen the local distribution network.

Meanwhile, the Ravenshoe upgrade will improve water quality in the Millstream River.

Tablelands Regional Council Mayor Joe Paronella welcomed the Building our Regions investment in the region.

“Completion of these water and wastewater upgrades are an achievement for the whole community and have strengthened our economy,” Mr Paronella said.

Projects funded through Round 5 of the program will be announced in 2020.
