The Oasis Townsville (TOT) is another step closer to completion, with the tender for the new road and street lighting released today (28 November 2019).

Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke said she was delighted to announce that the tender process was now open to local Townsville-based construction companies.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to making The Oasis a reality, and the release of this new tender shows the progress we have made on this crucial first phase,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“Delivering this project has been a signature commitment of mine for the Townsville community, and I am pleased to see yet another milestone achieved.

“The completion and contract documentation for the main works (building) design is currently being prepared, and I look forward making an announcement about that tender soon.”

“Importantly, this vital project for Townsville will also create approximately 26 local full-time equivalent jobs during construction.”

The Oasis Townsville will be a community hub for ex-ADF personnel who are seeking advice on available services in their area.

“It’s important that the current and retired servicemen and women and their families have access to the specific supports they need, particularly as they transition from the Australian Defence Force into civilian life,” she said.

“Ex-ADF personnel are aware that there are many services available to them, but they are not always aware of the best ways to access them.

“Thanks to TOT, the defence community will be able find out more about support for their well-being and transition to civilian employment.”

The Oasis Townsville will be located in Oonoonba, on the corner of Darter and Colvin Streets.

“This is the perfect location for The Oasis Townsville,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“There are already around 15,000 ex-defence force personnel living in the city, and it is expected that a further 500 services personnel will discharge into the local community each year.

“Through the building of this services hub, we will be able to offer support to the community where it’s needed most.”

Interested local contractors can apply through QBuild’s Townsville office using eTender.
