The Honourable Mark Furner

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner has thanked a hard-working team of Departmental staff who recently toiled to upgrade the outdoor area of the Save the Children Domestic and Family Violence Refuge in South-West Queensland.

“Staff from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) laid 15 tonnes of pebbles, shovelled 5.5 tonnes of sand, planted 30 trees and shrubs, installed 50m of irrigation and constructed a sandpit,” Mr Furner said.

“The women, children and staff at the refuge were very grateful upon seeing the completed sandpit and gardens.

“Save the Children has also expressed its appreciation for DAF helping make their grounds welcoming and homely for the women and children residing at the refuge.

“I congratulate everyone who contributed to our fundraising activities which raised almost $4,000 to make this working bee a reality.

“A special mention also to Karen Schrader for making and donating over 30 handmade quilts to the refuge and to Ross Savage for raising over a third of the funds through his own efforts.”

Over the next few months, DAF staff we will be conducting further fundraising activities to support the refuge.
