Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

Toowoomba businesses are being encouraged to tap into the region’s booming international exports market worth more than $1.3 billion a year.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the region was an export hub with mining, agriculture, and manufacturing the main industries.

“Companies like Mort & Co, Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and Norseman Machinery (NMI) who were also a finalist at the recent Queensland Export Awards are already key business success stories when it comes to tapping into the export market,” the Premier said.

“Now we want even more businesses to get on board.

“That’s why Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) is holding a series of events to provide Queensland businesses with the connections, knowledge and tools to succeed in overseas markets.”

The Toowoomba forum will be held on Friday 18 October at Picnic Point.

Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner, Indonesia, Ben Giles, Export Connections will be the keynote speaker and will provide firsthand knowledge on the Indonesian market - the largest of the ASEAN economies with expected growth presenting significant opportunities for Australian exporters.

The Premier said the event had been developed in response to feedback from the business community looking for actions to overcome their export challenges.

“We’re listening to our businesses right across regional Queensland and taking action to provide them with the best tools to become even stronger,” the Premier said.

“Queensland businesses who are exporting, or thinking about exporting, want to meet their peers, share ideas, and learn how to strengthen their business.

“Stronger regional businesses, exporting on a global scale, means a stronger economy and more jobs for regional Queensland.

“Queensland has around 7,300 goods exporting companies of which 40 per cent are based in regional Queensland.

“In the 12 months to August 2019, the State’s merchandise exports were worth $87.4 billion – an increase of 13.8 per cent from the previous year and worth more than New South Wales and Victoria combined.

“My government is focused on providing local businesses with the tools and resources they need to deliver what the world needs, and position Queensland as Australia’s most innovative and dynamic trading economy.”

Further workshops will be rolled out across Queensland in the coming months as part of TIQ’s Export Connections series, interested businesses can register for a workshop at tiq.qld.gov.au
