Three new Magistrates for Queensland

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has appointed three new Magistrates to our Magistrates Courts.

The Attorney welcomes the appointments of Rosemary Gilbert in Brisbane, Cameron McKenzie in Southport and Robert Walker in Emerald.

“Magistrates play a vital role in the administration of justice in Queensland and I congratulate our three newest judicial officers,” Mrs D’Ath said.

“All of the new Magistrates have impressive legal careers with a wide breadth of experience and expertise.”

Ms Gilbert has more than 40-years in the Queensland legal system having started with the Department of Justice in 1978 after completing year 12.

She worked full-time while completing her law degree. Ms Gilbert was admitted as a Solicitor in 1991 and since then has been employed with Legal Aid Queensland.

Mr MacKenzie began his legal career at Jones King/Dunhill Madden Butler before going on to work at some of Queensland’s biggest law firms.

His most recent role was as a Partner in Commercial Litigation at DWF (Australia).

Mr Walker has worked in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Criminal Justice Commission, the Crime and Misconduct Commission, the Coroner’s Court, and has served as the Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management.

Most recently he has been an Acting Magistrate and Acting Judicial Registrar in the Magistrates Court.

The Magistrates will start their new roles next week.
