I was disappointed by the behaviour of protesters in Queensland Parliament this morning.

We support freedom of speech, but stunts that disrupt Parliamentary democracy are a step too far.

I understand that this is an issue that many Queenslanders care a great deal about.

The Palaszczuk Government takes environmental protections very seriously.

The decision on prosecution by the Department of Environment and Science, as the regulator, will be based on the best available legal and scientific advice.

This is how we protect the integrity of our environmental protection laws.

Unlike the LNP and the Greens, we won’t put our laws at risk having politicians say who gets prosecuted.

The alleged release of contaminants at Abbot Point in March last year has been the subject of formal investigation and remains under consideration by the regulator.
