Arrangements for North Stradbroke Economic Transition Strategy

A high-level ministerial team will continue to drive the North Stradbroke Island Economic Transition Strategy.

State Development Minister Cameron Dick said he was disappointed that improvements in the delivery of the scheme were misrepresented.

“I will continue to play a key role in the transition for North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah),” he said.

“An enormous amount of work has already been done by officers of the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning and other government departments in the planning phase for this strategy, and I thank them for their dedication and hard work.

“During this time, DSDMIP officers have undertaken a number of key activities including consulting with all key stakeholders, continually informing the North Stradbroke Island community, creating formal governance arrangements, developing funding agreements and supporting all the projects to ensure the effective delivery of the overall strategy.

“It now makes sense that individual projects should be delivered by relevant departments. Tourism industry development projects like the Whale Interpretive Centre, for example, should be managed directly by the department that is focused on tourism industry development.

“We want the ETS to be a success and that’s why we have now allocated projects to those portfolios which have the skills and capability to drive projects forward.

“This approach has been agreed to by all Ministers involved in managing the future of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) including Minister Kate Jones, Minister Shannon Fentiman, Minister Anthony Lynham and myself.

“All Ministers remain involved in the overall project and my department will continue to deliver relevant projects, including the Dunwich (Goompi) Masterplan.”

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said she was determined to deliver new tourism projects for North Stradbroke (Minjerribah) in partnership with the traditional owners.

“We know that tourism is crucial to the future economic growth for Minjerribah,” Ms Jones said.

“That’s why we are investing in tourism infrastructure that we know will create jobs and economic opportunity.

“We look forward to working with QYAC and the Redlands City Council who are key partners in the delivery of these projects.”
