New intersection unlocks Elliot Springs residential development

A $15 million signalised intersection and entry roads upgrade in Townsville’s major master planned residential development, Elliot Springs, opened today, under the Palaszczuk Government’s catalyst infrastructure program.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said construction of the intersection and approximately 700 metres of major collector road created about 30 jobs and will provide greater access for the development that will house 26,000 residents once completed.

“Elliott Springs is a major development for Townsville, which will support almost 240 full-time jobs over the next three years of its design and construction,” Mr Dick said.

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said over the next forty years Elliot Springs will deliver a large scale, mixed-use urban development, supporting jobs and providing significant economic benefit and opportunity for the region.

“Often development can be stalled by the lack of critical infrastructure such as roads, water supply, wastewater or storm water,” Mr Stewart said.

“By investing $15 million in this essential catalyst infrastructure, we unlock the potential for economic growth and jobs in the region.”

Mr Dick said the Palaszczuk Government’s co-investment with developer LendLease will provide approximately $23.9 million worth of connecting infrastructure, sewer pump station and reservoir for the whole development.

Under the funding, Lendlease will also deliver a further two significant pieces of infrastructure including a sewer pump station and associated rising main from Elliot Springs to the Cleveland Bay Waste Water Purification Plant and water reservoir.

Lendlease Communities Managing Director Matthew Wallace said the opening of the signalised intersection and entry roads was a major milestone for Elliot Springs.

“The first houses have started construction, which on completion will be home to over 26,000 residents across more than 10,000 homes,” he said.

“We expect completion of the sewer pump station in early 2019, with the water reservoir expected to be completed by mid-2020.”

Once completed, Elliot Springs will be an integrated community offering a full range of public and private schools, a central town centre, extensive network of walking and cycling paths, sporting fields and community facilities.
