The Palaszczuk Government has called on eligible construction companies to tender for the construction of new government employee housing in Richmond, Winton and Hughenden.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said that this project was part of the $168.5 million investment announced in this year’s budget in new and upgraded government employee housing across Queensland.
“This financial year alone, the Palaszczuk Government is investing $15.6 million to construct new government employee housing in outback Queensland,” Mr de Brenni said.
“This housing not only provides jobs for the local construction industry, it helps us to bring doctors, nurses, teachers and police into rural and regional communities.
“Each of these employees brings an income and often a family with them into the community, which provides a boost both to available services and the local economy.”
Mr de Brenni said work would be available for a range of trades, including such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, concreters, glaziers, and cabinet makers.
“There are three separate contracts on offer, including include the construction of a new government employee house in Winton and duplex apartments in Hughenden and Richmond,” Mr de Brenni said.
“The Winton build will involve the construction of a four-bedroom house, while the Richmond and Hughenden jobs will involve building two- and three-bedroom duplexes.
“Government construction work should go to local businesses wherever feasible, so I’d encourage every eligible local company to put their hand up and get a tender in.”
