The Palaszczuk Government has called on eligible Queensland construction companies to tender for the construction of an eight-unit social housing complex in Deception Bay.

Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting said the project, which will include the construction of eight one-bedroom apartments over two levels, will be delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s $1.8 billion Queensland Housing Strategy 2017-2027.

“Two ground floor units will be built to the Platinum Level of Livable Housing Design Guidelines to accommodate residents with mobility impairment, with features like wider doorways and halls, lever taps and hobless showers,” Mr Whiting said.

“As well as increasing social housing availability in the region, the project is part of a strong pipeline of work that will help support the residential construction industry in the Brisbane region and support jobs for local tradies.”

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the Palaszczuk Government’s Housing Construction Jobs Program would see an investment of $220 million to build 684 new social housing dwellings in the Brisbane region over the first five years.

“This investment will see work for small, medium and large construction businesses, supporting the equivalent of 125 full time local jobs each year over the five years,” Mr de Brenni said.
