Construction is underway on new classroom block and other facilities at Park Lake State School, Education Minister Kate Jones announced today.

Ms Jones told state parliament the $2.6 million project would give the school four new classrooms as well as a new amenities block for the school’s Prep precinct.

“Bryant QLD Pty Ltd developed the design for the new classroom block to meet the needs of this growing school,” Ms Jones said.

“The two storey block will have four classrooms on the upper level and an open area that can be enclosed in the future to create four more classrooms as the school community continues to grow.

“A new amenities block will also be built adjacent to the Prep teaching area.

“This project will help ensure we meet the needs of the growing Park Lake State School community and also provide valuable jobs for local tradies and suppliers.

“We are committed to ensuring all Queensland students have access to the best possible school facilities.”

Park Lake State School principal Craig Larden said the new classroom and amenities blocks would be welcome additions to the rapidly expanding school community.

“We are experiencing strong enrolment growth, with nearly 900 students in Prep to Year 6,” Mr Larden said.

“The four classrooms in the new teaching block will be used by our lower primary classes as that’s where we’re experiencing the most growth and demand.

“It’s great to know we can build in the lower level in the future and create a further four classrooms as our enrolments continue to grow.”

Ms Jones said the Palaszczuk Government was continually monitoring high-growth areas like the Gold Coast to ensure school facilities were keeping up with enrolments.
