Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has announced the appointment of a new judge to the District Court of Queensland.
Mr Dennis Lynch QC has been appointed as a judge in the District Court of Queensland, joining two other new judges – Catherine Muir and Nicole Kefford – whose appointments were announced last month.
“Mr Lynch, Ms Muir and Ms Kefford are the first judges to be appointed under the government’s new protocol to ensure a more consultative and accountable process for judicial appointments,” Mrs D’Ath said.
“They were selected from a shortlist of suitable candidates recommended by the Judicial Appointments Advisory Panel, chaired by retired judge, The Honourable Hugh Botting.”
Mrs D’Ath has also welcomed four new senior Queensland lawyers as Queen’s Counsel.
Vicki Loury, Bernard Porter, Matthew Brady and Christopher Murdoch have been appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of Chief Justice Catherine Holmes.
“These appointments recognise the dedication, diligence and leadership of these members of the legal profession,” Mrs D’Ath said.
“I know these individuals have support from their colleagues at the bar, including the Queensland Bar Association.”
