Minister for Education, Training and Employment
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek

Minister for Education Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek has congratulated Queensland state school teachers, technical support staff and budding student film makers for being recognised at the 2012 Smart Classroom Awards.

Minister Langbroek said the 11th annual Smart Classrooms Awards rewarded excellence in the use of information and communications technologies (ICT) in Queensland state schools.

“The awards are all about rewarding the innovative use of technology to produce better teaching and learning outcomes in the classroom,” Mr Langbroek said.

“They highlight the outstanding work of six teachers who took out top honours for their savvy work in incorporating ICT into their teaching practices.

“The Newman Government is committed to ensuring that students receive the best possible education experience and these awards are a way of encouraging classrooms to use technology to do just that.”

Technical support staff were also recognised for going above and beyond in providing exceptional ICT support services to state schools across the state.

Mr Langbroek said three schools were named as winners in the Smart Classrooms Student Film Fest.

“Students from each of the winning schools spoke about their experiences in producing their entries and had the thrill of premiering their films at the ceremony,” he said.

“Congratulations to all the Smart Classrooms winners for driving change in our schools and keeping technology at the forefront of classroom practice.”

The Minister was represented at the ceremony, held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, by Assistant Minister for Technical and Further Education Saxon Rice.

Ms Rice presented awards and $5000 professional development grants to state school teachers and technical staff in recognition of their achievements.

Student Film Fest winners received two iPads and a video camera for their school.

The event was sponsored by industry partners Acer, Data 3, HP, Melbourne IT, Microsoft, Teamboard and Unify Solutions.
