A fresh start for Mount Isa in 2025-26 Budget

Budget delivers the foundations for a fresh start for Mount Isa with continued support for the Mount Isa Rodeo and $30 million for the Mount Isa Mining Acceleration Program.
More than $10.9 million will be invested in Mount Isa police accommodation and justice system resourcing to make Queensland safer.
$6.9 million for a new aeromedical base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service to restore health services when you need them most.
Fixing the Bruce Highway and funding CopperString to deliver generational infrastructure and plan for Queensland’s future.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Mount Isa with key funding commitments covering community safety, expanded health services and economic development in the 2025-26 Budget.

Mt Isa will also benefit from the Crisafulli Government’s $100 Back to School Boost, the $200 Play On! Sports Vouchers program, more frontline health workers more police on the beat and new social and community housing.

2025-26 Budget lays the foundation for the fresh start Queenslanders voted for, addressing Labor’s youth crime, health, housing and cost of living crises.

The Budget focuses on making Queensland safer, delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders, driving down cost of living pressures for families, providing more free healthcare and building generational infrastructure for our growing State.

A record $2.4 billion investment has been made for CopperString, which will save North Queensland’s biggest energy project and deliver vital jobs and growth in the region.

The Budget will also deliver $30 million for legacy benefits, including community infrastructure, housing and accommodation and economic and workforce development.

To support implementation of Making Queensland Safer laws for Mount Isa an investment of $6.4 million over three years will enhance justice system resourcing to help address crime and improve community safety.

In addition, $6.8 million has been allocated to complete new residential police accommodation for Mount Isa, ensuring local officers have access to secure housing, further supporting frontline workers in regional Queensland.

Mount Isa will benefit from a new $6.9 million aeromedical base in for the Royal Flying Doctor Service to restore health services when you need them most.

This will be backed by 2,600 new hospital beds across Queensland through the Hospital Rescue Plan, as well as an additional 4,700 health workers, more medical equipment and $1.75 billion over four years to stabilise the elective surgery waitlists.

Premier David Crisafulli said the Budget delivered the foundation for a fresh start for Mount Isa, just as promised.

“Today’s Budget delivers the fresh start Queensland needs and Queenslanders voted for, to address the crises in youth crime, health, housing and cost of living,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“We are delivering to restore safety where you live, health services when you need them, a better lifestyle through a stronger economy and a plan for Queensland’s future.

“This Budget delivers cost of living relief with the $100 Back to School Boost and the $200 Play On! Sports Vouchers Program, a fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan, a new nation-leading home ownership program to reduce the deposit gap, as well more police and early intervention to make Queensland safer.”

Investment into vital community infrastructure is also being delivered to support the Securing Our Housing Foundations plan, and the delivery of one million homes across Queensland by 2044.

Boost to Buy Shared Equity Scheme will also see $165 million to help close the deposit gap for 1,000 Queenslanders who don’t have savings to get into their first home.
