    Extra Rollingstock for Airtrain Services

Construction of rail passenger cars worth more than $38 million for services between Brisbane Airport and the Gold Coast was well advanced, the Transport and Main Roads Minister, Steve Bredhauer said today.

Mr Bredhauer said EDI Rail Adtranz was building the interurban cars at Walkers, Maryborough.

These modern cars will have a top speed of 140km/hr and will be equipped with overhead luggage facilities, Mr Bredhauer said.

As well, there are six wheelchair spaces in the same car as the accessible toilet and buzzers and flashing lights will provide indication to hearing and vision impaired passengers when doors are opening and closing.

Mr Bredhauer said the extra cars would enter service later this year.

He said QR was contracted by Airtrain to operate services to and from Brisbane Airport.
