Minister announces new name for Pimpama high school

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek today announced the new $30 million state high school at Pimpama would be known as Pimpama State Secondary College.

Minister Langbroek said the name was selected after community consultation involving Principal John Thornberry and the people of Pimpama.

“Almost 200 members of the community attended a meeting in July at Coomera Rivers State School to work together to establish the new high school,” he said.

“I congratulate Mr Thornberry and the wider school community for their hard work in helping to prepare for the college’s opening in January 2013 for Years 7 and 8.

Minister Langbroek said Pimpama State Secondary College would be one of the 20 pilot secondary schools in Queensland to take part in the Year 7 move to high school next year, ahead of the state-wide move in 2015.

“I encourage parents to contact the college as soon as possible to register their interest in enrolling their children, so they can take advantage of this new and exciting educational opportunity,” Mr Langbroek said.

Minister Langbroek said facilities would be specially designed for junior secondary students.

“These facilities will include a robotics laboratory, design studios, workshops, a common learning precinct, science laboratories and two business enterprise learning areas.

Mr Langbroek said community consultation would continue about the proposed logo, uniform and policies and procedures.

“The college, with a capacity for 480 students, has already received 80 expressions of interest for enrolment,” he said.

“The college ethos of ‘Your child: Our student’, reflects the importance that will be placed on a close relationship between local families and the college.

“Technology will be integrated into all aspects of learning to inspire innovation, creativity and entrepreneurialism.”

Interested families are encouraged to complete an expression of interest form for enrolment via the website https://newschoolshspimpama.eq.edu.au
