Brisbane Child Protection Week grant given

Child Safety Minister Tracy Davis today congratulated eight community organisations that have received grants of $1000 to run awareness-raising activities in Brisbane during Child Protection Week from 2 to 8 September.

Ms Davis said the grants would help local organisations run activities that promoted the idea that ‘protecting children is everybody’s business’.

“Hundreds of people are expected to take part in events across Queensland that raise awareness of child protection issues and teach young people about how they can best protect themselves,” Ms Davis said.

“When allocating the grants, the Child Protection Week Committee considered how activities would promote the value of children, focus attention on the issues of child abuse and neglect and reinforce that we all have to play our part in protecting children.

“Child Protection Week activities help remind us that we all have a part to play in making our community child-friendly.

“Children are our future, and the Newman Government will continue to work hard to keep children and young people safe and ensure they have a bright future.

“As part of our election commitments, we have established a Commission of Inquiry that is currently looking at Queensland’s child protection system to chart a new roadmap for the next decade.”

The local organisations to receive Child Protection Week grants are:

    • Anglicare Southern Queensland, South — $1000
    • Churches of Christ Care Pathways South West Fostering and Specialist Fostering — $1000
    • Family Planning Queensland – Fortitude Valley — $1000
