Property and construction industry meets the ‘go-to’ person
Assistant Minister for Planning Reform, Ian Walker, held his first bi-monthly breakfast meeting with the property and construction industry this morning.Mr Walker said the meeting was evidence of the State Government’s commitment to growing the Four Pillars of the Queensland economy – Construction, Resources, Agriculture and Tourism.
“In April, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney appointed me as the ‘go-to’ person for the property and construction industry,” Mr Walker said.
“This Government is committed to ensuring there is a ‘can-do’ culture across departments and this morning I met with key industry representatives to discuss industry-wide issues.
“These are the issues that will shape the government’s Property and Construction Cabinet Committee’s approach to revitalising the industry.
“I have already held a number of Planning Reform Forums and these, combined with the bi-monthly meetings, are helping in the formulation of our new policy for the industry.”
A broad range of issues were discussed at the meeting, covering a number of industry-wide concerns.
“Prior to the election, the Government made a clear commitment to getting Queensland back on track and this involves listening to the concerns of the industry,” Mr Walker said.
Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said the Government intended to cut the red tape and unnecessary roadblocks the previous Labor Government had imposed on industry.
The organisations which met with Mr Walker this morning included the Property Council of Australia, the SEQ Council of Mayors, the Queensland Master Builders Association and the Housing Industry Association of Queensland.
