    End to Number Plate Double-up

The LNP Newman Government has continued its War on Waste by returning to one set of number plates for Queensland motor vehicles.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson has ordered a halt to the duplication and waste created by the production of two standard sets of number plates.

“Producing two sets of number plates – the traditional Queensland-Sunshine State and Queensland-The Smart State – is simply incurring additional costs,” Mr Emerson said.

“Reverting to one production we will save more than $15,000 a year as part of our ongoing War on Waste.

“I’ve been advised that ceasing the second production line will not incur any costs and that the savings will be immediate.

“When more than nine-out-of-10 customers chose the Sunshine State plates, it is a clear indication to me of the public’s views of a tired Beattie-Bligh slogan.

“The fact that this duplication has been going on for more than a decade under Labor was anything but smart.”

While production of the Smart State number plates will cease immediately, it will take about five months before the existing stock of 20,000 Smart State plates is exhausted.

The change to production will not affect the options for customers who choose personalised number plates.
