Regional Qld community groups receive $150,000 for green projects

Community groups across regional Queensland have shared in Ergon Energy’s record $150,000 Envirofund program which helps encourage environmental initiatives and energy conservation in regional Queensland.

Minister for Energy Stephen Robertson said the program drew a huge response this year with grants awarded to a diverse range of environmental projects covering solar energy, water efficiency, waste management, wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education.

“More than 100 community groups applied for Envirofund with grants available from $500 to $10,000,” he said.

“Grants were awarded to a total of 22 not-for-profit community groups right across regional Queensland.

“With an additional $50,000 in funding on offer this year, Ergon Energy was able to share the grants out to more groups than ever before.”

Ergon Energy’s General Manager Marketing Steve Munnings said Ergon Energy was very pleased with the response and looked forward to keeping up to date with the projects as they roll out.

“We received some fantastic proposals this year, which displayed a real commitment to reducing energy consumption and encouraging wise energy use,” Mr Munnings said.

“Queenslanders clearly value the natural environment where they live and want to protect and maintain it for future generations.

“The Envirofund initiative recognises Ergon Energy’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and helping regional communities work towards a sustainable future for all Queenslanders.”

Since its introduction in 2009, Envirofund has given out $350,000 to regional Queensland community groups to help fund environmental initiatives.
