Cairns West State School is top of the class

Education Minister Cameron Dick congratulated Cairns West State School on its success in the 2011 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools tonight.

“The Showcase Awards for Excellence are Education Queensland’s premier event celebrating excellence in state schools,” Mr Dick said.

Member for Cairns Desley Boyle said Cairns West State School was raising the bar in education standards.

“Cairns West State School’s program, Academic success guarantee, received the QSuper Showcase Award for Academic Excellence award announced at the gala dinner,” she said

“In partnership with parents, Cairns West State School staff are committed to ensuring students who attend 95 per cent or more of the school year will meet or beat their year level benchmarks through individual student case management.

“I couldn't be more pleased about the announcement of this well deserved award to Cairns West.”

Mr Dick said winners of the Showcase Awards were recognised for programs that significantly improved student learning outcomes.

The 24 state finalists were announced this evening at the Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools Gala Dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The eight state winners each receive another $20,000 in development grants to add to the $5000 for being a finalist.

A full list of winners is available on the Showcase Awards website at http://education.qld.gov.au/community/events/showcase/2011/index.html.
