Gold Coast Spit development moves forward

Treasurer and Minister for State Development Andrew Fraser today announced that Brookfield Multiplex would submit a proposal to the State Government to development land opposite Sea World at the Gold Coast Spit.

Mr Fraser said the Brookfield Multiplex had been selected as the preferred developer through a competitive expression of interest (EOI) process to develop the five hectare parcel of land owned by the State Government known as the North Development Area.

“Considerable interest was shown in the site and after analysis and assessment the independent evaluation panel, with the support of expert advisors has now finalised the EOI process,” Mr Fraser said.

“As the proponent that most clearly met the state’s objectives and requirements, Brookfield Multiplex will now progress to the next stage of the procurement process.

“They (Brookfield Multiplex) will be asked to submit a proposal by late June 2011 outlining its development concept, timetable, key commercial terms and financial offer to the Coordinator-General.

“Subject to a satisfactory proposal being received, Brookfield Multiplex will be asked to submit a detailed development proposal and binding bid to the state by late August 2011.

“Following this, agreements with the state could be finalised by late 2011 to enable the project to commence.”

The proponent will be required to progress the design, planning and subsequent development of this parcel of land to a development program agreed to by the Coordinator-General.

Mr Fraser said the Coordinator-General played an important oversight role for infrastructure development to ensure the people of Queensland received maximum benefit socially, economically and environmentally.
