Premier and Minister for the Arts
    The Honourable Anna Bligh

    Wednesday, December 29, 2010

In light of the unprecedented weather events and subsequent flooding across Queensland, Premier Anna Bligh will this morning return from leave with her family.

The Premier will receive a comprehensive briefing from authorities before inspecting flood affected areas today.

While water levels are receding in some communities and the focus is now on the clean-up, there remain a number of areas under serious threat of flooding.

“The way in which our emergency services, local councils and communities have responded to these unprecedented weather events is nothing short of remarkable.

“While the weather conditions have thankfully eased in parts of Queensland, many communities remain at risk of flooding.

“Our priority is ensuring communities are prepared and that they are getting the support they need.”

“We will now also turn our efforts to the recovery in communities where the water levels are subsiding and the damage can be assessed.”

“I have been in constant contact with the Acting Premier and received regular briefings on weather, flooding and the evacuation of Theodore.”

Following her briefing this morning, the Premier will visit Bundaberg and Rockhampton with the Minister.

The Deputy Premier will visit Dalby and Warwick.
