NEW BLIGH GOVERNMENT FUNDS FOR SCHOOL UPGRADES

The Bligh Government yesterday announced funding of more than $4.1 million for facility upgrades at 31 state schools.

Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson said the funds were allocated for projects under the Bligh Governments Smart Schools Subsidy Scheme for 2010-11.

The Smart Schools Subsidy Scheme encourages schools, teachers, parents and local organisations to work together to identify and plan facilities that benefit students and the local community, Mr Wilson said.

I congratulate the parents and school staff who worked together to identify projects and put together submissions.

These school communities have worked hard and the Bligh Government is pleased to assist with funds.

Mr Wilson said sporting courts, multi-purpose centres and playground upgrades were among the projects planned in this round of the Smart Schools Subsidy Scheme.

The 31 projects will generate 85 jobs across the state, Mr Wilson said.

Attached is a list of the 31 Smart School Subsidy Scheme projects.
