$2.66 million maintenance contract for Banana Shire Council

A $2.66 million maintenance contract has been awarded to Banana Shire Council for work on state-controlled roads in the Fitzroy Region.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace announced today Banana Shire Council would carry out the maintenance works for the current financial year.

“This vital funding will enable the local council to complete routine maintenance works on various state-controlled roads in the region,” Mr Wallace said.

“These projects will provide safer, smoother travelling conditions for motorists, while prolonging the life of road surfaces and maintaining local roads in a safe condition.

“As part of this contract, maintenance work will include repairs to potholes and road surfaces, as well as grading unsealed roads.”

Mr Wallace said under this contract, Banana Shire Council would maintain the Dawson, Leichhardt and Burnett Highways as well as the Eidsvold–Theodore Road, Baralaba–Rannes Road, Biloela–Callide Road and various other state-controlled roads in the region.

“This funding will contribute to better roads and a greater level of road safety for regional Queenslanders,” he said.

“These maintenance contracts help regional centres by providing ongoing employment for local road workers.

“Local councils have the people on the ground to carry out the work as well as access to the materials and equipment needed for the job.

“It’s a great win for the local Fitzroy communities and for the thousands of visitors travelling to this great part of the state each year.”
