NEARLY 100,000 HOMES SIGN UP TO EVICT ‘NO ONE’ AND SAVE ON BILLS
The Bligh Government’s hugely popular ClimateSmart Home Service is expected to reach 100,000 homes within weeks and the lucky milestone customer will receive a major prize, Climate Change and Sustainability Minister Kate Jones said today.
Ms Jones said the 100,000th customer who books the energy, water and money-saving service for their home will win a 6-star energy efficient LED television.
Ms Jones made the announcement as she came face-to-face with the energy-wasting anti-hero ‘No One’ at the ClimateSmart Home Service roadshow launch in Brisbane.
“By introducing this service, the State Government is helping residents tackle the increasing day to day costs we face,” Ms Jones said.
“ClimateSmart householders are not only saving energy and water but saving in their hip pocket.
“The 93,000 households signed up to the energy-saving service so far will collectively save up to a total of $21.9 million each year on energy and water bills.
“On current trends, we expect the 100,000th customer to call within weeks. Strong demand means we are getting very close to this significant milestone.
“On top of receiving big savings on their water and energy bills, the 100,000th customer will receive a 6-star energy efficient LED television – that’s a massive incentive to reduce your carbon footprint.”
A ClimateSmart Home Service involves a licensed electrician visiting a Queensland household.
They will conduct an energy audit and install energy efficient equipment including a wireless energy monitor, up to 15 free energy efficient light globes (CFLs) and, where suitable, a free water and energy efficient showerhead.
Customers also receive advice and a personalised Energy and Water Efficiency Plan based on their individual energy usage habits and appliances.
Ms Jones said the State Government planned to evict ‘No One’ from 260,000 Queensland homes in two years and the service was well on the way to reaching that target.
“The mass eviction of ‘No One’ from Queensland homes is a big win for the environment and a major initiative to achieve the State Government’s Q2 target of reducing by a third Queensland’s household carbon footprint by 2020,” she said.
“So far, we’ve potentially achieved the equivalent of 280,000 cars being taken off the road for one year from subsequent greenhouse gas savings of 1.1 million tonnes.”
The ClimateSmart Home Service roadshow will travel throughout South East Queensland over the next two months, showing locals how they can save money, energy and the environment.
Visitors can see what is included in the service, and online registrations will be available, offering a simple way to sign-up for an appointment.
Ms Jones said the roadshow represented an excellent opportunity for those not yet involved to register for a service so they too can enjoy savings while reducing their carbon footprint.
“The ClimateSmart Home Service offers exceptional value for money,” she said.
“It gives people a simple but effective way to make significant savings on their energy bills, as well as a chance to contribute to the fight against climate change.
“For $50, customers are provided with $450 worth of energy saving equipment and advice. This could save them up to $325 on their annual electricity bills.”
