Free health and safety workshop for Caboolture businesses

A free workshop to help improve the health and safety of workers in local small-to-medium businesses in the Caboolture area is being held on May 6 in Caboolture.

Minister for Industrial Relations Cameron Dick said the workshop will provide business owners and managers with simple ideas and systems which they can put in place to make their workplaces safer.

“The Bligh Government is committed to helping make Queensland workplaces among the safest in the country,” Mr Dick said.

“Having positive workplace health and safety practices in place can improve the morale of workers, increasing their productivity and, therefore, the success of the business.

“Next week’s workshop will ensure local business owners and managers are armed with the information and advice they need to provide their employees with a safe and healthy workplace,” he said.

Mr Dick said the most common causes of injuries in the workplace are slips, trips, falls and inappropriate or excessive lifting.

“These types of injuries can easily be prevented by implementing appropriate workplace health and safety practices,” he said.

“Limited to 12 participants, the workshop will allow employers a chance to talk one-on-one with the workshop’s business advisors, to identify areas where they can improve their workplace health and safety.”

The workshop will cover topics including:
    • Management commitment to safety
    • Consultation
    • Implementing safe work procedures
    • Training and supervising employees
    • Reporting safety issues
    • Workers compensation and return to work programs
    • Self assessing your business.

The workshop, being run by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, will be held from 9am to noon at the offices of the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation at Level 4, 33 King Street, Caboolture.

People who want to attend the free workshop can register online at www.worksafe.qld.gov.au under the Small Business section.
