Government looks for developers for Boggo Road Urban Village

The Queensland Government is looking for a qualified organisation or consortium to develop residential and some mixed-use components of the Boggo Road Urban Village.

Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten said the successful organisation would finalise the design of these components, and then develop and acquire the sites.

“The Boggo Road Urban Village, located in Dutton Park, has been designed to be a vibrant mixed-use development incorporating residential units, commercial offices, environmental research facilities, retail facilities, public open spaces and the heritage listed old gaol buildings,” Mr Schwarten said.

“The State Government obtained planning approvals for the Boggo Road Urban Village from the Brisbane City Council and the $45.5 million site infrastructure works and construction of the $270 million Ecosciences Precinct is well underway,” Mr Schwarten said.

“We are now commencing the first stage of involving the private sector by inviting expressions of interest. This first stage does not include the Boggo Road Gaol Precinct.

“A significant focus of the Boggo Road Urban Village is delivering 25 per cent of the residential component of the Village as affordable housing.

“The developer would also develop and acquire some of the mixed use components.”

Mr Schwarten said Queensland-based Watpac Australia is constructing the $315.5 million site infrastructure works and Ecosciences Precinct.

The Expression of Interest Invitation document will be available for download to interested developers from www.boggoroad.com.au today (Monday 23 February) from 10 am Brisbane time.

Expressions of Interest close at 3pm Brisbane time on Monday 6 April 2009.
